Disney Infinity is an action-adventure game that relies on players collecting real figurines of popular Disney and Pixar characters. Each time players buy a figurine, they unlock that character and its associated world.

There are two modes of play: Toy Box mode and Play Set Mode. The Play Set mode is a linear campaign, whereas the Toy Box mode is essentially a sandbox where players can build their own worlds. In Toy Box mode, you can play with characters from different worlds (i.e., Disney/Pixar films) but to play co-op in a Play Set you need two characters from that Play Set.

ESRB Ratings

Disney Infinity Rating

Disney Infinity is available on the Wii, Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, and Mac. It is rated E10+ across all platforms for cartoon violence.

Sex, Drugs & Rock n’ Roll

Violence: There is fighting in Disney Infinity, but it’s all very cartoonish. When characters are destroyed, they simply break apart (like a broken toy would) and disappear.

Player Interaction: You can connect with friends online and play together. Players can also upload their own levels for others to play.

Savepoints

There is only one save file for the game, so make sure kids know they could accidentally erase their progress in story mode if they start a new game. Any items you’ve unlocked will remain unlocked.

However, each figurine can store information from multiple games! So multiple people can share the same figurine and be at different levels.

The game autosaves, and you can also save your Toy Box manually.

Story & Themes

Each Play Set in Disney Infinity has its own campaign mode that you can play through with up to two players. These quests usually involve some kind of platforming, cartoonish fighting, and questing with familiar characters from the series.

Players get items from the Play Set world that they can use in Toy Box mode. In Toy Box mode, players can mix and match items from all the Play Sets and create their own games or fantastic landscapes.

Disney Infinity encourages kids to learn from their play and to engage creatively with the content of the game. To adults, Disney Infinity may look like a shameless cash grab; reviews from kids have praised its open-endedness and the magical sense of fun that comes from being master of your own magical land.

The Creators

Disney Infinity is developed by Avalanche Software and published by Disney Interactive Studios.

Conversation Starters

Disney Infinity is a creative game featuring tons of popular Disney and Pixar characters.

  • Who is your favorite character and why?
  • What would you like to build in Toy Box mode?
  • How did you build that?
  • Why is this character better than the others?

Jargon

Figurines: Real-life figurines unlock playable game characters. Information is stored in the base of the figurine, so you can put your figurine on a friend’s Infinity Base and play as your character.

Infinity Base: The base comes with the starter pack. Placing character figurines and world discs on the base loads them into your game. You can use up to two characters at a time.

Play Set Mode: Play Sets are the campaigns that are more linear. Completing a Play Set campaign unlocks additional items from that world. Characters from different worlds can’t be used together in Play Set mode.

Power Disc: Power discs can be put on the Infinity Base to activate special items or abilities for characters.

Toy Box Mode: In Toy Box mode, players can build and populate their own worlds and essentially make their own games. Objects from any world can be used together in Toy Box mode.
